The last village appraisal was completed in 1995 and the objective remains the same;

“The Berden Village Appraisal should provide an historical “snap-shot” of Berden in late 2006 and assist the Parish Council and other organisations in setting objectives for the future.  It will also provide an opportunity to establish how the people of Berden view the village and what their priorities are for improving the quality of life for all residents.”

Everyone over the age of 11 now has an opportunity to tell us what they think and influence the future objectives that are set.

The results of the 1995 Appraisal, answered by over 200 residents, asked for the following developments in Berden:

• Build a Village Hall car park
• Renovate the Village Hall kitchen
• Establish a bottle bank
• Undertake a twice yearly litter clean up
• Establish speed limits through Berden
• Build no more than one house a year
• Design and erect a Berden sign on the green
• Improve footpath signage
• Increase the equipment in the playing field

These have been achieved to a greater or lesser extent and where grant money was required the Appraisal was the evidence needed to obtain these grants.  Not everything asked for was achieved such as the provision of a bus shelter and improving cold weather road gritting but these have not been forgotten.

Please do take the trouble to complete the Appraisal and help set a course for the future that will result in the sort of village that you want.  The more people that complete it the better the results.
