Does anyone in Berden remember Capt James (Jim) French Foulds who died at Brick House Farm in November 1939? I have spoken to Jim Foulds (no relation) from Manuden who as a boy remembers him. I am the Captain's granddaughter, and would like to find out what brought him to the farm, where he died it seems without a penny! He had run away from Sheffield to sea around 1865 and sailed extensively in the far east and the Med. The only photograph I have of him is of an eldery chap with a long white beard. I am puzzled as to why he ended up in Brick House Farm - quite possibly he was there for 15 years.
