The Village Hall in Berden is situated on the outskirts of the village, on the Clavering road. Originally the Methodist Chapel, it was acquired by the Parish Council in the late 1940's for the use of the community, and has since undergone various improvement programmes; the latest was a Lottery-funded extension which has had a major impact on the functions which the Hall can accommodate, and the atmosphere which it generates. The Hall is used for many Village functions, such as the Women's Institute*, the Mothers' Union*, Line Dancing*, Yoga Classes*, Drama Group* productions, Parish Council* meetings, and particularly the Social Club *, which uses the Hall on Fridays and Sundays with a Licensed Bar, and for other events as and when they occur; this can include the Midsummer Ball, Birthday Parties . . . anything you can think of. It is also used as the Polling Station for Local and National Elections. It is available for hire for both Public and Private functions, and is an ideal venue for any large-scale event: it can accommodate up to 150 people, although the practical maximum audience for a theatrical production (with the stage in place) is 80. The Hall has its own Car Park with spaces for about twelve cars, and a large paved and grassed area with benches and tables, and a barbecue. Inside, the Hall consists of a large, high room, with a bar area to one side, with small tables and comfortable seating, and an open fireplace; adjacent to this there is a fully-equipped kitchen, with a very large quantity of cutlery and crockery, and a serving hatch through to the main Hall. There are Mens and Ladies' toilets, and also a separate toilet for the disabled. An oil-fired boiler provides the heating and there is a modern air-extraction system. There are ramps for disabled access, and a lighting system, which is fully controllable through a series of dimmer switches. The facilities include:
