At the Council meeting on May 21st, Philip Scatchard was elected Chairman and David Williams Vice-Chairman for the coming year. The Councillors’ responsibilities were agreed as follows:Budgets, Planning Committee, Village Appraisal & Village Hall Committee – Stephen Griffiths, Emergency Plan – John Burton, Finance and Audit – Peter Jester, Playground, Fund-raising and Grants – David Williams, Richard Little, Planning Committee. Footpaths & Trees– John Burton and Sue Bates,   Website, Highways & Planning Committee – Philip Scatchard  If you have any questions, comments or views about any of these areas, please contact the relevant Councillor. Footpaths.The Parish Council has received a number of complaints about horses being ridden on Public Footpaths. Could we please remind you that anything designated as a Public Footpath may be used only by walkers: horse-riders are welcome to use Bridleways, Byways and Public roads, and also any other areas with the Land-owner’s permission. I have a copy of the County Council’s Definitive Map of all these routes, so if you are in any doubt as to what is a footpath/bridleway/byway, do please ask me (777784). Playground.The Council would like to express their thanks to Brian Blackwell for his work in maintaining the Playground. We must remind all users that when he is cutting the grass it is vital that the playground is vacated, as the machinery he uses can cause danger, particularly to young children. It does not take long to complete his work, which results in a well-tended playground for the benefit of all. Please respect the notice about this. Green Skip.Unfortunately we were not able to find a location for a Green Skip for Garden waste in Berden. There is still one on Saturday afternoons in Manuden (Chapel Hill) – for further information on recycling contact Uttlesford District Council at: Telephone: 01799 510344
