Attempted artifice burglary 27/5/09 A man called at an address in Loompits Way, Saffron Walden on the 26th May, claiming to be from the “Three Valleys Water Board”. The elderly householder did not allow the man access but said that he had arrived in an unmarked van. Three Valleys DO NOT send their operatives around in unmarked vans. Please do advise any elderly neighbours that they’d be advised to refuse entry to anyone claiming to be from Three Valleys unless they have made a prior appointment. There was an almost identical incident in Malden a few days before this, so please be aware that this person is travelling around and could easily come to our area and, is particularly likely to single out older householders. Suspicious behaviour An Indian male in his 40s, accompanied by a small child, knocked on a door in Littlebury, claiming to be from a Cambridge Newspaper group. The householder opened the door, but became concerned when the man put his foot over her threshold and tried to step up through the door to see behind her. She closed the door and the male left. She claims that the man had an aggressive manner. If you have seen this man, or had a similar call from him, please call us so that we can investigate this further. IF IN DOUBT, DON’T LET THEM IN!
If you see any suspicious or unusual activity around your neighbourhood or have any information which you think might be of help to the Police, please call Essex Police on 0300 333 4444.
