Easter Candle Print E-mail

Dear Friends

On Easter Sunday every year we light the Easter Candle, also known as the Paschal Candle. This candle is lit to remind us of the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. It is also lit every time we have a baptism, and from it is lit a smaller baptismal candle that is then given to the baby’s family and then taken home.

At the baptism service these words are used as the Priest addresses the baby’s parents and god-parents :-

In baptism this child begins his  (also her) journey in faith. You speak for him today. Will you care for him and help him take his place within the life and worship of  Christ’s church.

To which they reply; With the help of God we will

Every Sunday we gather in church for worship and we have services which include children as well as adults, for everyone of us never stops learning what it is to be a Christian and to lead and live a Christian life, the Vicar included. Remembering those promises made at baptism I write this month to all who have had their children baptised in our churches and invite you to bring your children and their baptism candles to an All Age Service we will be holding in

Rickling Primary School at 10 am on Sunday May 16th
